The First International
Indigenous Summit
The First International Indigenous Summit - CONIC has
begun on March 21, 2000 with the initiation of the Peace and Dignity
Journeys in Tierra del Fuego.
On May 1, the northern tributary of the continental
Indigenous Peoples spiritual run departed from Alaska in the North,
on their way to rejoin with the Southern tributary from Tierra del
Fuego at TEOTIHUCUACAN, MEXICO.
The Sacred Staffs, which represent the memory and dreams
of the native nations of the Eagle in the North and the Condor in
the South, will be present at the CONIC Summit.
The Sacred Staffs of the Eagle and the Condor represent
the organizing principles of Indigenous Unity at a continental level.
They are ancient, as ancient as the stars. As such the Sacred
Staffs shall serve as guides and witness to the struggles of our
Nations for Peace with Dignity.
In TEOTIHUCUAN, MEXICO on OCTOBER 25-30, 2000
the process of uniting in council at the continental level will
give voice again to the words of the struggle for liberation, the
rights and obligations that direct our spiritual ceremonies and
traditions, and on the Doctrine of Denial by the United Nations
and the Organization of American States (OAS) in not implementing
the UN Declarations on self-determination and decolonization of
the indigenous nation territories of this continent as was recognized
for the continent of Africa after World War II.
